Laura Goode and Meera Menon are the co-writers of the Farah Goes Bang script and co-founders of Farah Goes Bang, LLC. Undergraduate classmates at Columbia University, Laura and Meera met when Meera starred in the production of Laura’s first play, The Martyr Letters, in 2003, and and have previously collaborated on the short films “The Seduction of Shaitan” (2006), “Memor Ergo Sum” (2007), “Are You Laura Goode?” (2007) and a teaser for Farah Goes Bang (2010).
Meera Menon is a writer, director, and producer of narrative and documentary films. She received her BA in English and Art History from Columbia University, and her MFA from USC’s School of Cinematic Arts in directing. Meera’s father, Vijayan Menon, is a film producer and founder of Tara Arts, which has served as a cultural ambassador of South India to members of the Indian diaspora for over thirty years, showcasing various musical and cinema artists from Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh all over the world. As a result, Meera grew up in the South Asian film industry and won a national television award in India for her performance on the hit TV show “American Dreams” when she was 18. In addition to her filmmaking career, Meera has worked as a curator for contemporary film and video art festivals in Paris, Miami, and New York; she curated the exhibition “meet me here xoxo” at New York’s legendary Chelsea Hotel in 2008. She has been known to use humor as a defense mechanism, and wonders if United States Department of Defense might consider doing the same.
Laura Goode is a screenwriter, novelist, poet, essayist, and compulsive organizer. In 2012, Laura designed and executed the $75,000 Kickstarter campaign to fund production of Farah Goes Bang, which exceeded its goal to raise a total of $81,160 and become one of Kickstarter’s 50 highest-grossing film campaigns to date. Her first novel for young adults, Sister Mischief, was released by Candlewick Press on July 12, 2011, and called a “Best Book of 2011” by Vanity Fair, “a provocative, authentic coming-of-age story…full of big ideas, big heart, and big poetry” by Booklist in its starred review, and a “2012 Best of The Bay” pick by the San Francisco Bay Guardian. Laura’s writing has appeared in numerous publications, including New York Magazine, IndieWIRE’s Women and Hollywood, Boston Review, The Rumpus, The Los Angeles Review of Books, Denver Quarterly, The New Inquiry, The Faster Times, Racialicious, and Feministing. She received her BA in English and Comparative Literature and MFA in Writing from Columbia University, where she wrote and directed two original full-length plays, one of which was produced with a special grant from the university’s Performing Arts League at the professional Miller Theater. Laura’s favorite autobiographical fun fact is that at age 13, she placed 11th in the state of Minnesota at the official Scripps Howard national spelling bee competition.
Mark Stolaroff is an independent producer and a founding partner of Antic Pictures. Stolaroff recently completed his newest micro-budget film Pig, an official selection at over 30 film festivals worldwide and winner of 6 Best Feature awards. Stolaroff also produced True Love, developed in the Sundance Screenwriters Lab, as well as The Trouble With Men And Women, (Associate Producer); the feature documentary Paper Chasers, (Co-Producer); Some Body (Associate Producer); Manic, (Associate Producer); Keep The River On Your Right: A Modern Cannibal Tale (Associate Producer), and the Academy Award-winning short film My Mother Dreams The Satan’s Disciples in New York (Production Manager). Stolaroff was formerly a principal of Next Wave Films, a company of The Independent Film Channel; included in Next Wave’s 13 films are Christopher Nolan’s Following; Joe Carnahan’s Blood, Guts, Bullets, & Octane; Amir Bar Lev’sFighter; the Academy Award-nominated documentary Sound And Fury; and the Sundance Grand Jury Prize-winning documentary Southern Comfort. In all Next Wave took seven films to Sundance and five to Toronto; nine were released theatrically in the U.S. and two premiered on HBO. Stolaroff has lectured on low budget and digital filmmaking throughout the world and at many of the major film festivals. His background also includes two years in Investment Banking at Merrill Lynch Capital Markets, and five years as the Managing Director of Curtains Theater. Stolaroff received his BBA from the prestigious Business Honors Program at the University of Texas in Austin.
Danielle Firoozi is a Los Angeles-based film producer, visual artist, and co-founder of Empty Gym Productions. In addition to her work on FARAH GOES BANG, she is currently producing the documentary THE PROCESS IS THE THING, following the life cycle of five pieces from different artists around the world. Half-Iranian and born into a family of global project managers in Michigan, Danielle excels at facilitating large scale endeavors with ease. Danielle lived for ten years in Shanghai, where she learned to speak Mandarin Chinese fluently, and completed her B.F.A. in Studio Art at New York University.
Erica Fishman brings almost a decade of professional production experience to the FGB team. A graduate of Northwestern University’s prestigious theater production program and a member of the Director’s Guild of America, Erica’s extensive resume includes three seasons on Denis Leary’s hit FX series Rescue Me, along with TV credits on 30 Rock and Canterbury’s Law, and film credits on Remember Me, World Trade Center, and Music and Lyrics. She is currently the second assistant director for Law and Order: Special Victims Unit.
The most important thing about Liz Singh is that she is a proud producer of FARAH GOES BANG. The second most important thing about her is that she’s Canadian, and that tells you almost everything else you need to know. She recently received her MFA from USC’s School of Cinematic Arts, and currently works as a Creative Executive at Ineffable Pictures; you can follow this hilarious development on Twitter @babyexec. When asked what she aspires to do in the film world, Liz says she wants “to make awesome shit.” She has previously produced the award-winning short “A Better Place than This” and directed the short documentary “The Rachel Corrie Syndrome.”
Hailing originally from Washington D.C., Paul emerged into film production from a background in journalism and digital media. He received a B.S. from James Madison University in media arts and video post-production, and an MFA from USC’s School of Cinematic Arts. He has also received numerous awards from educational institutions and independent film organizations for his writing and experimental filmmaking.
Kara Sullivan has been a casting director since 2003 and is the owner of Kara Sullivan Casting in Los Angeles, focusing on diversity casting. Kara’s credits include films such as “A Lesson of Love,” “Spanners,” an HBO Latino Film Festival pick “Abuelo,” and a 2008 Cannes Film Festival pick “Exact Bus Fare.”
After gaining an Honors degree in Psychology and English Literature from the University of Sydney, Kate attended Sydney Film School and won the sculpting pictures award for best film editing. After graduating, she moved to the United States to pursue editing work in feature films. She has assisted acclaimed feature film editor Dylan Tichenor A.C.E. on the films “The Town” (Director- Ben Affleck) and “Whip It” (Director- Drew Barrymore) and Myron Kerstein on “Untitled Diablo Cody Project” (Director- Diablo Cody), “The English Teacher” (Director- Craig Zisk) and “Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist” (Director- Peter Sollett). She has also edited five indie feature films to date, two of which were action films directed by Dolph Lundgren. She is also currently directing her first feature documentary “Roller Dreams” on a larger than life crew of Venice Beach Roller Skate Dancers.
Alexis Marsh and Samuel Jones are two composers and multi-instrumentalists living in Los Angeles. They joined forces over the course of one year in USC’s Scoring For Motion Picture & TV graduate program, where they found themselves inspired by one another’s writing styles and instrumental abilities. Working together as co-writers, co-producers, and session musicians, they have provided unique original music for a multitude of projects ranging from short films and animations to commercials and corporate promotional videos.
